Set Your Sights On Things Above
We so quickly get our eyes off God. Let's get back into
perspective.

What are you Saying?I know I don't dress in the most modern style, and maybe some of my tastes are stuck in the 90's (no, not the 70's or 80's anymore), but I'm continually grateful that God doesn't judge me on those things even though some people might.
I think lots of times we look around at others and wonder what made them pick that color, or why they think that outfit works... Sometimes we even make comments on a particular style - thinking the person we're referring to doesn't realize it, or won't even notice. Or maybe we're not referencing anyone in particular. It's not like I've never done it, too, it's just that I'm now realizing how destructive those sorts of comments can be - especially to those who stand silently around us and watch, and never say anything about it. Thing is, people notice. They hear what we say when we critique a fashion or a style, and honestly it makes them feel judged, and wonder what else they're being judged for. It cuts off communication, isolating that person from the people they should feel comfortable with. Even those you consider your friends will eventually wonder what you criticize about them. And those who already feel isolated from you? They'll feel even more set aside. Because face it, not everyone has the same sense - not everyone likes the same things or has the same standards. So on one hand, while we as Christian ladies are taught never to criticize a visitor to church based on what they're wearing, we don't seem to have that same problem with criticizing each other...even if it's done in a roundabout way sometimes. Ladies, those of us in church constantly, every Sunday, every function, we can feel that judgment too. Let's not divide with our words, let's unite. I'm going to work on this in my own life. |
